Jayden also went to see Dr. D yesterday afternoon to have his weight and speech/hearing checked.
His weight was really good - 24 lbs. (11%) He wouldn't let go of me though - so we weighed him fully clothed & diapered on the big scale with me, and then subtracted me... so it might not be quite as accurate. But that was a 3.5 pound jump since January, so everyone was happy!
Dr. D also wanted to check his hearing since he isn't saying too many words still, and he didn't want to wait until Jayden turned 2 to start testing. He used a machine that went slightly into his hear and measured if there is anything in the ear canal that is blocking sounds from getting in. And there was, Jayden didn't pass the test. So right now it is like he's hearing with his fingers plugging his ears. He's not deaf or partially deaf, he just needs to get the gunk out that is plugging his ears up.
But Dr. D said that can change over time & come and go over time. So they are going to check him again in mid-June and then again in mid-July when he goes for his birthday appointment. If he continues to fail the test then he will see a specialist and probably get ear tubes at the end of the summer. And if that is the problem, the tubes should fix it immediately, and soon after that Dr. D said kids usually start talking words/sentences immediately.
