This week at school someone told me about this "sensory bin" idea and a cool website for ideas. And I was very excited to try it!
A sensory bin is a bin full of stuff having to do with a certain theme - holiday, gardening, trucks, letters, numbers, colors, etc. And the idea is to keep everything in and around the box (not spread all over the house) to encourage learning and imaginative play.
I took the boys to the dollar store this afternoon to see what we could find for cheap... they didn't have quite the selection that I had hoped to fill my box ideas... but we got a good start I think.
I call my first box "Cups & Diggers". There are a few little trucks/ digger type things, and a set of measuring cup & spoons. A few squishy balls, craft pom-poms, rocks, and some large un-cooked noodles.
The boys played with the box while I was making dinner tonight. They had fun filling the cup and dumping them out. Jack laced some noodles on a straw.... they used their imaginations!!!
I'm hoping to pull this out in the afternoons with Jack a few times a week while Jayden is napping.
My next box will be alphabet themed..... :)
