Jack was really, really, really good in the car. He only had one of two short tantrums, but he got over them. We left at 6:45am and were home about 6:15pm. It was a full, fun, hot & humid day!
Here are Jack and Dad by Vince Lombardi. As always we started our trip with a stop at Lambeau Field to get some new Packers gear for the upcoming season (well, Jack and Daddy did... mom doesn't spend that kind of money of clothes the represent a football team....) But the boys will look good in their green & gold all fall and winter!
Our next stop was Lautenbach's Orchard outside of Fish Creek in Door County where we have picked cherries for the past several years. We started with a nice picnic lunch and then headed to the orchard to pick!
At first we bought two buckets, but the picking was so good, and Jack was such a good helper we ended up getting a third. It took us about an hour and a half to fill all three. Jack helped pick cherries, and he also picked some dandelions for me and played with sticks and straw on the ground. The only bad thing... the MOSQUITOS!!! Jack had been eaten alive lately :( Luckily I brought bug spray, so that did help a bit.
Jack "reaching" for the cherries. One of his new favorite words is "reach". He loves to "reach" for things!!!
All Done! Jack and Daddy posing by our three full buckets of cherries. yummy! (although someone has to pit all those........)
After we got cleaned up from cherry picking, packed up our cherries, and bought a cherry pie to bring home (since I'm running out of time to be baking pies at this point....) We drove into Ephraim.
Our first stop was at The Door County Confectionary Shop where we picked out a pound of fudge to bring home. Jack acted like "a kid in a candy store" in that place and we couldn't get out fast enough!
Then we drove down the road to Wilson's for some ice cream. Mom & Dad got the best ice cream flavor in the world - Sneakers! I have only been able to find it at Wilson's, so every year I that's all I get, in a waffle cone, of course! And as a special treat for Jack we got him his own bowl of rainbow sherbert. However, he wasn't really into and most of it just melted or got all over my legs as we tried to eat in the heat and humidity.
Jack did have fun sitting and looking at the water and boats as we had out ice cream. He wanted to keep climbing down the rocks - he didn't quite get that there was water down there!
After that Jack was pretty wiped out and soon fell asleep in the car so we began out journey home. We made one more stop and Culver's for dinner and then made it home.
Jack was very well behaved and now we have 20 bags (40 cups) of cherries all pitted and packed away in the freezer (that only took me 4 1/2 hours this morning........) And I think there is still a little bit of fudge and some cherry pie left, but not for long!
