Fun with Grandma!

This week Monday and Tuesday, Grandma Michele was off work - and what better way to spend vacation days than by having adventures with Jack!!! And since dad had to do school stuff those two days, it was great for mom and Jack to go out and do something fun.

On Monday Jack and I went swimming at Fox Brook Park for the afternoon with Grandma. Jack had a great time playing in the sand and in the water. The water was nice and warm. And the day was warm and sunny!

On Tuesday Jack and I went to State Fair with Grandma, Uncle Hayden, and Hayden's friend Joe. Again it was a beautiful, warm, sunny day. We saw lots of animals, rides, and ate good food. It was a little hard for Jack to sit in the stroller for such a long time, and it was hard for him to walk around on his own. But he was really good and we all had a nice afternoon.

"Farmer Jack" - there were tractors everywhere... and Jack was very upset his couldn't ride on any of them.

It took all my strength to keep Jack from climbing on top of it!

What a nice two days we've had together with Grandma!

Fun Times!

Jack has had a busy few days!

First of all, he turned 15 months old on Sunday Aug. 9th. He went to the Dr. this morning (he did not enjoy it!) And he got a great report. Weight -23lbs 2 oz (30%) Height -32in (77%) He's still tall and skinny.

Last week Sunday the fun began when G&G B and Uncle Hayden came over for dinner on a beautiful summer afternoon. We enjoyed a nice dinner with fresh cherry crisp for dessert - delicious!

Then on Monday, we went down to the pond for a morning of swimming. It was warm and sunny. Jack had fun playing with his cousins in the sand, on the go cart, and swinging. Then after lunch Jeff and I left to go see Harry Potter and then went out to dinner at Olive Garden. Jack stayed with Grandma and Grandpa. He took a nice nap, ate a good dinner and was very well behaved. And Grandma and Grandpa gave his this John Deere tractor t-shirt and sock set!!!

This past Saturday we were down by Jeff's parents. They were having B's down for swimming and dinner. Our intent was to leave early to get some extra swim time in the hot weather - however the rain stuck a little longer than expected. We still went down a little early along with Uncle Hayden. And after the storms stopped after lumch we got right in the water! B's arrived around 1:30 and by then it was getting really hot. The pond water was cool, but it felt really good - even mom was in the water!

And if that wasn't enough fun for the weekend - yesterday we went down to the boat. It was still a scorcher! 90* downtown even though it was pretty cloudy. We played on the boat for a while, Jack had fun exploring down below, and he even put his feet in the cold lake water. It was too windy to go out of the slip, so after a while we took a walk from the marina down to Brady Street. There we found a nice Custard place and enjoyed a snack. Jack helped Grandma eat her twist cone! After our walk and a little more time with our feet in the water back at the boat, we headed back to B's since there were rainstorms coming! We enjoyed a nice "indoor picnic" of burgers and corn on the cob and then headed home.

What a weekend! Thanks to everyone who made it so wonderful :)

15 months - Almost!

Jack is going to be 15 months old one week from today. Up until he was 1 year I was writing about his new accomplishments, daily routine, etc. each month. But I haven't done that since his birthday - so I thought I'd do an update since I have some time this morning.

15 months!

Jack's routine: He wakes up anytime between 5:45 and 6:10, has a bottle, gets dressed and changed, eats some yogurt and graham crackers around 6:30, then we read books or play in the basement until dad wakes up around 7. Then we play in the living room or Jack makes a mess in the kitchen cabinets while I do prep work in the kitchen for the day. Some days at 8am we watch Super Why! on channel 10. That's really the only tv show Jack has shown interest in other than the Elmo's World part of Seseme Street.

At 9am I give him a bottle and by 9:20 he's down for his morning nap. This naps lasts anywhere from 1-2 hours. Most often it's an hour and a half.

When he wakes up we go play outside as long as the weather isn't raining. And that's where we stay for a few hours! Jack loves to play with water - especially if it's coming out of a hose. He also likes to play in the sand, swing, and run into the neighbors "toy yard" behind our house. Sometimes we play with the hose in the front yard and water the flowers.

Jack likes to eat his lunch outside. Either in his stroller, boosters seat at the table or just walking around. He as peanut butter and grape jelly on whole wheat bread along with applesauce or fruit chunks, and a cheese stick and a cup of juice which he sips from during the early afternoon. He's getting much better at holding the cup by himself the last few days!

Sometimes around 1:15 we walk to the park, either by the library or Rotary to play befor nap time. He loves to run around and go down the slides. He loves it if other kids are around. At 2:10 or so we start our afternoon "nap walk". Most days Jack is sleeping by 2:20. This nap with last anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. He's always up by 4pm (either on his own or with some subtle prodding...)

After he wakes up we come inside and play in the living room or kitchen for a little bit before dinner. Jack has been eating Gerber Graduate meals the last month. He loves the Pasta Pick-ups Ravioli - because he can feed himself! He also likes carrots and fruit - especially peaches and blueberries. After Jack eats he "helps" mom make dinner and then sits with us while we eat at 4:30.

After dinner is daddy playtime. They usually play outside if the weather is nice, or just around the house.

At 6pm Jack gets another bottle, he usually drinks this one standing in front of me or wiggling around in my chair - but he manages to drink, so I guess that's what counts. He just can't sit still.

Then it's inside play time. Mom and Dad usually have a movie on and we play with Jack in the living room. His latest amusement is pulling everything out of the kitchen pantry (cans, bottles, etc) dragging them around and sometimes putting them back where they belong. We also play with Legos and Clipos. He likes to ride his pony and read books. He brings me the one he wants to hear and sits down on my lap. But he's a very impatient reader, and likes to turn the pages too fast.

At 7:30 he gets a bath then pajamas, bottle, and he's in his crib at 8pm. He usually "sings" himself to sleep along with his "fish" aquarium music box. He's pretty quiet all night. Sometimes I hear him awake talking to himself, but I never have to go get him or quiet him down.

Other things about Jack: The past few weeks we have seen a real decline in table manners at restaurants and in shopping carts. It is virtually impossible to take him anywhere now where he has to sit.

He can talk and communicate very well. He points a lot and will pull my leg or take my hand and lead me to where he wants to go. He can say "ball", "yuck", "hot hot hot" and "what that" and lots of "da-da-da's" - which means "dad","mom" "that", and a variety of other things. And I swear he said "Umbrella" the other day - but no one believes me, except Jeff, I think he heard it! Jack has said it at least twice!

A lot of times it sounds like he's saying other real words or phrases. He likes to wave to people, some times he's a little late and they look or drive away before he starts - but it's still cute! And he claps when he does something good (or some thing he thinks is good....). He'll also give hugs and blow kisses when he's in the right mood.

We have been practicing two baby sign language books - general terms and mealtime terms. He can do "hot hot hot", "fish", "hat", "telephone" (his favorite) and occasionally other ones.

He loves to play with remote controls and telephones. He has many toys phones and toys that aren't phones, but he makes them into phones. He walks around with it to his ear and has some very involved conversations with someone!!

He hits and bites sometimes, but he's not trying to be mean, and he's been a lot better with that the last week or so.

Jack does throw little temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way. They are usually pretty quick and involve a quick high pitched scream and stomping of his feet really fast.

And man does he fall a lot! His poor little head :( Luckily we have had no major injuries yet (knock on wood). He can't sit still and always has to be going somewhere fast!

He also loves to dance - it's kind of a bounce, but he's dancing. He loves music, and tv commercial jingles, he has a few favorites which always catch his attention.

He loves apple-cinnamon cheerios, yogurt melts, graham crackers and goldfish crackers for snacks and he LOVES ice cream!

Jack is currently wearing size 24m/2T clothes and size 6 shoe. We are still using cloth diapers whenever we're home (which is like 90% of the time). Most days his only disposable is used overnight - which has saved a lot of money. He drink 20-24 ounces of whole milk each day and 4-6 ounces of apple juice.

And of course, his favorite thing is "blankie b". It's always by his side :)

That's Jack at almost 15 months!

Air show!

Today we went down to the lakefront for a few hours to catch some of the air show. Jack was able to see some of the planes once he figured out they were up in the sky! And he definitely heard them!

It was a nice afternoon and something different and interesting to do!

Summer Vacation!

Earlier this week we went to Door County for three days. Jeff and I have gone every year mid-July for our anniversary. This year we stayed at the Bay Breeze Resort which was very nice. And it had its own private beach across the street for guests only, so Jack had plenty of water to play in (which was his favorite part of the trip!)

On the way up Monday morning we stopped at Lambeau Field to take a look around the gift ship and buy our Packer gear for the year, the boys are both set for the season now!

We ate at a few of our favorite places, Julie's and The Old Post Office for breakfast, and The Northern Grill for dinner. We went to Peninsula State Park to ride bikes, check out a lighthouse and climb Devil's Tower. We were at the beach there for a little while, but it was just too busy for us, we liked the quiet one by our hotel much better.

We also picked cherries! Which was lots of fun. We got three buckets full since Jack slept for the first 45 minutes of picking in his stroller so we didn't have to keep an eye on him and keep the cherries out of his mouth. Once he woke up he had a great time running around the trees, and he loved to eat the tart cherries I gave him!

The weather was great for our two full days in Door County, we would have done a few more things the last day but Jack was ready to come home... next year hopefully we'll stay a little longer.

Go Go Jackson!

Jack is on the move! Another fun day at the pond brought boat rides and go-cart rides :) And boy does this little boy LOVE tractors - big and small (good thing Grandpa owns one!!!)

Riding the go-cart... he didn't cry, but he didn't really smile either... but we think he enjoyed it!

Relaxing boat ride - before Jack started trying to climb out.

So much summer fun! In a few days we're off to Door County for even more :)

Mom's New Toy!

I bought myself a jogging stroller today! I'd been thinking about it for a while, and finally did it. Jack and I went for a short jog/brisk walk this afternoon to try it out (he fell asleep!)

Today Jack and I also went to visit my friend Jackie and her two kids, Donovan (almost 3) and Sadie (7 mos) who are here visiting from Hawaii. Jack had a great time playing with Donovan's toys!

First Sail of the Season!

I have been waiting all summer to get out on the sailboat and I finally got my chance this past Sunday!!! The weather and schedules just wouldn't cooperate until then. But luckily it was a picture perfect summer day.

Jack with the breeze in his beautiful blonde hair.

Jack was a little unsure of the boat and life jacket experience. He was kind of squirmy on the boat, so we just motored around the harbor for a while with him and then Grandma Michele took Jack for a walk while the rest of us sailed. And they had a great time! They saw the Circus Parade, the Mayor, the Art Museum, and the beach!!! And the rest of us had a very nice sail out on the lake. It was just how I like it - lots of sun and upper 70's!

The guys.

After our sail we headed back to grandma & grandpa's for dinner. Jack had a great time playing in with the garden hose - the kid doesn't need toys just give him tools!!!

Party!

This past Saturday Jeff's parents hosted a family picnic, it was an absolutely beautiful day. We headed down a little early to get some extra swim time in the pond. Jack had a great time in the water and playing in the sand with Chase. By the time the party actually started it was almost Jack's nap time, and he ended up sleeping about an hour and a half, so he missed a bit of the party. But it was still a great time.

Here are Jack and Chase in the sand!

Here's a picture of Jack riding Chase's Gator Tractor. He LOVED it!!! He was a bit too little still to use it himself, but luckily he had lots of helpers around to lend a hand.

What a perfect day!

Happy 4th of July!

On July 3rd, we went to the Menomonee Falls parade with the Mahlum family. Jack was very good but seemed to find it a little strange when a) our street filled with cars and there were people walking everywhere, b) we were standing in the middle of the street with tons of people around, and c) when strange looking things started coming toward us in the street.... ! But he watched with interest (I assume) and he waved a little bit (mostly when there was no one to wave at, but oh well, he's getting better! Jack and I left the parade around 8pm. He was starting to get tired and I didn't want him to fall asleep on the walk back home since he really needed a bath! That night he fell asleep around 8:40, and on the 4th he's still awake at 5:40am!!! What's the deal??

Happy 4th of July from Jackson!

On the 4th we went to a picnic at my aunt & uncles house. The weather wasn't great (no sun!) and the mozquitos were terrible! But we had a good time and really good food! Jack didn't see any fireworks this year, he was getting too sleepy both nights... but next year we will.

Enjoying the picnic with Grandpa Steve and Great-Auntie Karen!

At the campfire, eating snacks - we look so patriotic in red, white & blue!
